The Clintel Foundation, founded in 2019 by Guus Berkhout and Marcel Crok, has been around for five years this year. An excellent opportunity to organize our first real conference on Tuesday, June 18 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Roelofarendsveen. The passionate American climate researcher Willie Soon is coming to the Netherlands especially for this occasion. Anyone who follows the climate debate at all probably knows Willie Soon. In 2003, he was one of the first researchers to be critical of Michael Mann's infamous hockey stick graph. Soon and his colleague Sallie Baliunas knew it. Baliunas talks about this episode in the recently released film Climate: The Movie.
Willie Soon is originally an astrophysicist, but is now mainly a climate researcher, specializing in the role of the sun on climate. He was for many years (1991-2022) at the Solar, Stellar and Planetary Sciences Division of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Boston. In 2018, Soon started the Center for Environmental Research and Earth Sciences together with Irish father and son Michael and Ronan Connolly (Ceres Science). In December 2023, he gained more international fame through a interview with Tucker Carlson. Soon is very active scientifically. An overview of his work can be found in this document.
In addition to Willie Soon, the American geologist Gregory Wrightstone, director of the company co-founded by Will Happer, will also be present CO2 Coalition, to the Netherlands for the Clintel conference. Wrightstone comes to talk about his book A Very Convenient Warming, which is marketed in Dutch by Succesboeken.nl in collaboration with Clintel. The Dutch translation will be presented on June 18, the day of the conference.
The rest of the program is just as interesting. The Swedish researcher Jacob Nordangard will take you through his research into the historical forces behind the climate agenda, about which he has now written two books. Of course, Clintel founders Guus Berkhout and Marcel Crok are also present. Guus will have a message for the audience about how to proceed with Clintel, but especially with the climate debate and climate policy. Marcel will prepare a whole new lecture about climate in the courtroom: is that the place where the debate should be settled?
Hydraulic engineer Hessel Voortman has recently been working on two extremely interesting papers about sea level. Is there an acceleration in sea level or not? Theo Wolters should of course not be missing either. He will discuss the costs of nuclear energy. Finally, Bert Weteringe comes to talk to us about the ups and downs of onshore wind.
The Dutch speakers will give their lecture in Dutch. The three foreign speakers, of course, in English.
A fantastic program that you absolutely must attend.
